Type 1 (Tuberosity avulsion fractures):


Immobilisation Method: Below knee cast

Duration of immobilisation:   4-6 weeks


Weight bearing status

FWB as comfortable


Follow-up


Appointment 6/52

No follow-up X-Ray

Only X-Ray if still symptomatic

                   

Type II/III (Jones, Diaphyseal fractures):


Non-active individuals


Conservative Management

Below knee full POP

NWB followed by FWB

(6+2 weeks)

Check X-ray 8 weeks

                         

If not healed


Continue in cast 4/52     

Repeat x-ray  4/52

Non union

Discuss with patient: ORIF (4.5mm solid partially threaded screw)

Young and active individual, athletes, manual labourers
